Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics

Students are taught automotive mechanics. Studies involve a variety of work on two main types: motor vehicle and small engines. The students first hone their skills on brush cutter and small motors before moving onto motor vehicle engines when they are a little more accomplished. Students also learn safety in the workshop, identification and use of tools, basic layout of vehicle, internal combustion principle, engine construction, fuel supply system, engine lubrication, transmission, suspension system, steering wheel, cooling system, brake system, wheel balancing and alignment, shock absorbers, hydraulics, ignition system and engine tune-up procedures.

Panel beating skills are also taught at a tradesman assistant level. Vehicle body disassembly, rust and panel repair skills are practiced.
